EVALUATION OF FIELD PERFORMANCE OF QUITI-KILL BIOLARVICIDE WETTABLE POWDER AND RICE HUSK GRANULES AGAINST DENGUE MOSQUITOES IN SELECTED HOT SPOTS IN QUEZON CITY

QUITI-KILL (international brandname MOUSTICIDE) Wettable Powder and Rice Husk Granules were both proven effective in killing 100% of the test Aedes aegypti larvae in 24 and 48 hours, under laboratory conditions.  This study hopes to prove that the same laboratory results can be experienced in actual field setting and therefore be a valuable part in the integrated vector control management for dengue prevention.

More specifically, the study aims to find out if:

"QUITI-KILL can reduce the mosquito population density by reducing the percentage of household infestation in selected hot spots barangays in Quezon City.  The product is effective as an attractant larvicide (Mosquito Biolarvicidal Trap) and as larvicide when applied in productive containers in the community."

The test area is in Barangay Batasan Hills in Quezon City.  Quezon City, the largest in land area and the most populous city in Metro Manila, reported the highest number of dengue cases in 2012.

The study is a joint investigation of the Quezon City Health Department and the Medical Entomology Laboratory of the Department of Parasitology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines- Manila.  It commenced in April 2013 and will go on for 3 months.
